The delay in the building of embankments to safeguard Bhadrachalam town and the neighboring Godavari catchment regions from flood dangers has caused great displeasure, according to Agriculture Marketing and Handlooms Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao.
As he inspected the recently built sluice on the Subhash Nagar-Koonavaram route on Friday, the Minister berated the SCs of the Irrigation Department for their carelessness. He requested an explanation from the relevant authorities and questioned why there had been a year-long delay in development. To guarantee resident safety and efficient transit during the Godavari floods, Tummala ordered that the construction be finished by May 31, before the monsoon season.
He emphasized the need of raising the old embankment’s height from the sluice point to the newly constructed section. In order to enhance flood control, he also gave the order to install automated setters and permanent motors. Following Sri Ramanavami, Tummala asked officials to speak with the District Collector right away in order to settle any outstanding matters and get back to work as soon as possible.
He sternly warned that if there were any more infractions, careless SCs and DEs would face severe consequences. Participants in this session were Podhem Veeraiah, Chairman of the Forest Development Corporation; Tellam Venkat Rao, MLA for Bhadrachalam; Jitesh V. Patil, District Collector of Bhadradri Kothagudem; ITDA Project Officer B Rahul; SP Rohith Raju; and representatives from the irrigation and other departments.
