Punjab Kings (PBKS), led by Shreyas Iyer, will face Ruturaj Gaikwad's Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Ruturaj Gaikwad in the 22nd match of IPL 2025 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh.
Punjab Kings won their first two matches of IPL 2025 against Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, but lost to Rajasthan Royals in their last match. They will try to return to the path of victory against CSK.
Prior to the blockbuster match against CSK, PBKS captain Shreyas shared an interesting anecdote associated with the 2025 Champions Trophy campaign when he cried.
Shreyas, who played a key role in India's Champions Trophy 2025 victory, revealed that he cried during the first practice session in Dubai, as he could not bat well in the nets.
“The last time I cried properly during the first practice session of the Champions Trophy, because I was not able to bat well in the nets. I got angry and started crying. I had done well in the England series and so, I hope that I would be in the same rhythm in the Champions Trophy,” Shreyas said on the Candid With Kings Podcast of Punjab Kings.
“But the circumstances in Dubai were different and therefore, it was quite difficult to mold itself on the first day. When the practice session ended, I wanted to bat something extra, which I could not do. So, I got very angry,” he said.
2024 IPL winning captain also spoke about his bond with his family. Shreyas said that his parents still ensure that whenever he travels to play, they leave them at the airport.
Iyer said, “I am very close to my family. My parents still come to leave me at the airport. So you can imagine how close I am. I was nervous in the beginning and told them to stay at home and relax, but now I have realized that they want to come and enjoy it, so I don't have any problem with it.” Punjab Kings spent Rs 26.75 crore to buy Shreyas Iyer, making him the second most expensive player in the IPL auction. He is enjoying his time with the PBKS team, he has given the team two wins in the three matches played so far in season 18 of the Indian Premier League.
