The Delhi government on Monday launched the Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana, under which free health treatment up to Rs 10 lakh will be provided to citizens of the national capital aged 70 years or above. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri distributed the first Vaya Vandana cards to the beneficiaries at a program in the national capital. Under this scheme, medical assistance of Rs 5 lakh per annum will be provided free of cost. Apart from this, an insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh will be provided under the Delhi government scheme, which will increase the total health insurance scope to Rs 10 lakh.

Delhi CM made the announcement.
Gupta said that this is the first program of its kind under the triple engine model and I thank Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi for honoring our elders with this health scheme. He said that there will be no difference between the rich and the poor, everyone will benefit from this scheme, irrespective of their financial background. He said that registration is starting today and the only criteria are that you should be a citizen of Delhi and you should have an Aadhaar card. You can enroll from today. More than 100 hospitals in Delhi are involved in this scheme and more than 30,000 are registered for cashless treatment. He said that this is an important step.

The triple engine will benefit.

Targeting the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Gupta said that the previous government did injustice to Delhi by postponing this scheme for seven years due to arrogance and political reasons. Gupta said that now, we promise to bring change in Delhi by joining hands with three governments (pointing to BJP being in power at the Center, in the Union Territory, in the Municipal Corporation). Delhi will become more beautiful, educated, and developed. Everyone will get the benefit of this scheme. We will work together and this is a big responsibility. Excuses will not work now, we will do the development that Delhi deserves.
