I visited the city that many consider to be the most boring getaway in Europe - but I had a great time. Europe is full of exciting and each one of them is different from the other.

Tourists flock to cities around the continent for different reasons, whether it's the , restaurants, bars, nightclubs, tours, or the weather. No European city can be said to be the same as another, and that's the beauty of having so much diversity on our doorstep.

But there is one city that tourists have called "boring".

Brussels is the capital of Belgium, and is accessible from the UK via flight or a train from London's St Pancras International. The latter is how I got there, stepping off the train and walking into the city centre for my few days there.

I had heard some not-so-great things about Brussels in terms of things to do - but I was there for three days and I managed to keep myself pretty busy. So, I think you should actually consider visiting Europe's most "boring" city for a few days.

The one thing that really stood out to me about the city was the on-street eating and drinking, creating a lovely atmosphere as the sun was shining over the Belgian capital. I went to Brussels in mid-April and I was lucky with the .

First things first, I walked around the city and checked out the sites. Brussels is home to some amazing - stand-outs include The Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula, and Brussels Town Hall.

However, the best scenes are at The Grand Place, a square surrounded by some of the most beautiful Gothic buildings you will ever see. Veering off this square, there are plenty of winding streets with great bars, restaurants, souvenir shops and spots to grab a delicious Belgian waffle, which is a must-do when you are in the city.

While we're mentioning food, you also need to try the famous Belgian fries, known as 'frites' or 'pommes frites', while you are here. Belgium is the birthplace of the French fry, after all.

While the architecture was breathtaking in Brussels, the true stand-out in this city, for me, was the restaurant and bar culture, with tables and chairs sprawling onto the streets on squares to create a truly ambient eating and drinking experience for tourists and locals alike. Plus, there were people who just grabbed a few from the local convenience stores and enjoyed them with friends by the water at Vismarkt, a scenic square with statues and surrounded by restaurants and bars.

During my explorations in the city, I also came across a lovely outdoor bar in Parc de Bruxelles which was a welcome break during a long day of walking around the city. While Brussels might not be the most thrilling city in Europe, it certainly is not boring if you are willing to spend your time walking around, admiring the architecture and trying the local food.

According to TikToker GeoExplorer, Brussels is one of the most dull cities in all of Europe because it is home to just waffles and government buildings. In my view, that could not be further from the truth.

You won't need a whole lot of time in Brussels. In fact, a day or two is probably more than enough.

But it definitely should not be ignored just because you have heard someone on TikTok calling it "boring". If you are willing to enjoy the scenery and the local hospitality and go on a city break where you can take things slow, Brussels might be the perfect getaway for you.

Plus, Brussels is near to the smaller city of Ghent, which I also visited. Ghent, to me, is a criminally underrated destination and a day trip here was something I thoroughly enjoyed because of its stunning buildings and quaint cafes.

Brussels also isn't too far from , another city that I have on my list of places to visit.
