The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been dealt a major blow in IPL 2025 as Devdutt Padikkal has been ruled out due to injury. In his place, the franchise has roped in Mayank Agarwal, a Karnataka native and seasoned IPL campaigner — who also happens to be the son-in-law of India’s CBI Director.

Mayank Replaces Padikkal for ₹1 Crore

Unpicked in the auction despite a base price of ₹1 crore, Mayank Agarwal now finds himself back in action thanks to Padikkal’s exit. Given his deep familiarity with Chinnaswamy Stadium — his home ground — he’s expected to slot in smoothly.

Strong Connections Off the Field

What’s making headlines beyond cricket is Mayank’s personal connection. He is married to Ashita Sood, a lawyer and daughter of CBI Director Praveen Sood, who previously served as the DGP of Karnataka Police. While this has no bearing on selection, the link has sparked public curiosity.

Mayank’s IPL Journey So Far

  • 127 matches, 2661 runs

  • Batting average: 22.74

  • 1 century, several impactful knocks

  • Has represented 5 IPL teams over the years

RCB Will Miss Padikkal’s Firepower

Although Mayank brings experience, RCB will surely feel Padikkal's absence. The left-hander had been consistent at No. 3 this season, scoring 247 runs in 10 matches with two fifties and a strike rate over 150.
