The newly launched Mumbai Metro Aqua Line-3 (Aarey JVLR-Acharya Atre Chowk) carried 32,725 passengers on Day 2 till 8 p.m. on Sunday. The metro line had around 26,000 passengers on its first day of service. Only 15,000 people had used the metro on May 3, when its operations were limited to BKC; thus, the rise in passenger volume is noteworthy. This suggests that many people like the metro’s service on this route. The Aqua Line-3, Mumbai’s first underground metro train, traveled from BKC to Worli on Friday, crossing the Mithi River to arrive at the Island City.
The underground line would provide metro access to workplaces in the Worli, Lower Parel, and Prabhadevi regions from BKC, the city’s major business zone. It would also facilitate transit to the Siddhivinayak and Shitaladevi temples, Shivaji Park, Mahim Dargah, and Ravindra Natya Mandir. From 6.30 am to 10.30 pm, the Mumbai Metro-3 trains travel at a headway of six minutes and twenty seconds. On Sundays, the trains will operate from 8.30 am until 10.30 pm. Between Kotak BKC and Acharya Atre Chowk are the stations of Dharavi, Sitaladevi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, and Worli. The authority intends to use eight metro trains in total to run 244 trains on the line per day. It should take 15 to 20 minutes to complete the full distance.
The metro administration has also been implementing a number of innovative initiatives to encourage public transportation among Maharashtra’s populace. In an effort to increase foot traffic, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) teamed up with a retail center. The Hindustan Times cited an MMRCL spokesperson who said, “As part of our commitment to seamless travel, we have partnered with Phoenix Palladium Mall, Lower Parel, to offer a free shuttle service from Acharya Atre Chowk (Worli Naka) Metro Station to the mall, enhancing last-mile connectivity.”
