Delhi: Virat Kohli has announced to retire from Test cricket on Monday, which has led to a big change in Indian cricket, especially when the team is preparing for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

Earlier it was believed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would try to celebrate Kohli in the Test series of five matches starting against England from 20 June. However, now according to new reports, the situation is completely opposite.

According to a report by Dainik Jagran, the BCCI made it clear that instead of convincing Kohli, it is no longer sure of his place in the Test team due to the decline in his form.

A BCCI source told Dainik Jagran, “The BCCI does not urge anyone. The decision of a player is his personal. We do not interfere in it.”

The report also claimed that a similar message was given to Rohit Sharma during a meeting held in Mumbai on 7 May.

According to a separate PTI report, the selectors were considering the captaincy of Kohli again for the England series at a time, so that young players like Shubman Gill could get more time for leadership.

A BCCI source said, “It is true that the selectors had considered Kohli a captain for the England series. This would give Gill the time to get into the role of leadership. But, Gill has not yet reached his peak at the age of 25. Gill has not yet reached his peak. Jaspreet Bumrah’s fitness about the fitness of the fitness is being considered as the leader of Gill as the next captain.”

Kohli’s recent Test performance has been disappointing. He scored only 190 runs in 5 matches in his probably his final Test series in Australia. Earlier, his performance against New Zealand was worse, where he scored only 93 runs in 6 innings.

In this way, Virat Kohli’s retirement from Test cricket is like the end of an era for Indian cricket.
