Ravindra Jadeja, the all-rounder for the Indian cricket team, recently shared a post on Instagram to thank his fans for their support. He included a photo of himself in his Test uniform. This sparked some chatter among fans online wondering if he was hinting at retirement from Test cricket, especially since Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stepped away from the format recently. But it turns out there’s no need to worry; Jadeja’s message was about something else entirely.
He just made history by holding the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test rankings for all-rounders for the longest time. Since reaching that rank in 2022, he’s been at the top for 1,153 days. His post was really about thanking fans for their congratulations on this achievement, not about retirement.
Jadeja is set to play a key role for India as they gear up for a tough series against England in June. At 36 years old, he would be the oldest player in the squad if he gets picked.
On another note, former Indian spinner R Ashwin suggested that Jadeja should be considered for the role of Test captain now that Rohit Sharma has retired. Ashwin expressed his disappointment that Jasprit Bumrah won’t be leading the team, saying, He is a national treasure. He added, There are obvious choices, but I want to throw in another name as well – Ravindra Jadeja.” Jadeja has played 80 Tests, scored 3,370 runs, and taken 323 wickets, making him one of the top wicket-takers in Indian cricket history.
