The applicant had gained admission to the Master’s in Finance program at City University of New York (CUNY) Baruch College. His documents were strong: an I-20 form, a solid academic record, plus financial proof with a $58,500 loan and an equal amount in savings.

However, his US visa interview at the New Delhi embassy did not go as planned. Taking to Reddit, the student shared his experience and sought advice on why his visa was denied.

When asked how he discovered the university, he explained that he searched for schools accepting three-year undergraduate degrees and came across Baruch, supported by positive reviews on LinkedIn. This honest but simple reply may have been the turning point.

Reddit users responded quickly, suggesting his reason lacked depth and failed to show genuine commitment. Many said a stronger answer would connect his career goals with how the university’s program would sharpen his skills and prepare him for a job back in India.
