New Delhi: Porsche are close to launching the most extreme and technically superior 911, he fifth generation of the GT2 RS, according to media sources. Porsche are working on stretching a road-legal 911 to its limits. It will have a completely re-engineered twin-turbocharged version of Porsche’s signature flat-six petrol engine combined with an electric motor in the hybrid system taken from the 911 GTS T-Hybrid.
Earlier reports had suggested that it would adopt a 700 horsepower hybrid powertrain. The GT2 of the 991 generation generated 690 horsepower, but adding electric technology will make the car heavier, which will prevent it from setting any lap records at the Nürburgring. The previous 911 GT2 RS weighed 1470 kg and is expected to be heavier than 60 kg, as seen in the 911 GTS T-Hybrid model.
However, to curb weight, buyers will have an offer of Weissach performance package with Perspex windows, reducing sound insulation and other measures that will make the car lightweight.
For Porsche, it will bring their dominance at the Nurburgring back with prototypes being spotted lapping the track with the unveiling closing in. Spy shots of the car have revealed that the car has an aggressive styling. With the exception of the door, every panel is unique to the car.
On the front, there’s a new bumper and clamshell-style bonnet that has additional air ducts to improve the cooling for the front-mounted radiators and even reduce turbulence within the front wheel arches, which are much wider than other 911s. The back has a massive fixed wing centre to the design element, with a mostly hidden exhaust system.
With a car that has lived since the 1960s, and has countless variants with powertrains and expressions of motor engineering, the 911 GT2 RS is a much-awaited automobile from the German carmaker. It has always been a record maker and the one that thrills the heart.
