Mumbai: The University of Mumbai (MU) on Monday announced the commencement of its postgraduate (PG) admission process for the academic year 2025–26 across its various departments, inviting applications for regular programmes offered under the new National Education Policy (NEP) guidelines.


According to the university, it is witnessing considerable interest from students in both its traditional academic offerings and newly introduced, industry-aligned courses.


A statement released by MU noted that “students are showing strong preference not only for established academic programmes run by departments with over 100 years of heritage, but also for innovative new courses tailored to evolving needs and emerging sectors”.


In response to dynamic industry demands and global trends, MU has introduced a wide array of programmes in cutting-edge domains such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Analytics, Cyber Security, and Cloud Computing.


“Taking into account the changing requirements over time and the opportunities arising in emerging fields, the University has started a number of courses in AI, Data Analytics, Cyber Security, and Cloud Computing,” the statement said. It further stated that courses have also been developed to cater to the needs of industry, research, and society.


In the Faculty of Science and Technology, the Master of Science (M.Sc.) programmes include a diverse range of disciplines such as Finance, Bio-Technology, Bio-Physics, Life Science (Aquaculture Technology), Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, Organic Chemistry (Autonomous), Analytical Chemistry (Autonomous), Inorganic Chemistry (Autonomous), Physical Chemistry (Autonomous), Industrial Polymer Chemistry (Autonomous), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics (Autonomous), Environmental Science, Zoology (Oceanography), Statistics, Nano Sciences and Nanotechnology, Material Science, Data Analytics, and Marine Studies. Specialisations in IT and engineering disciplines such as M.Sc. in IT, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Information Technology, and Geography and Geospatial Technology have also been made available.


The Master of Technology (M.Tech.) programmes feature courses in Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence. Additionally, the M.Sc. in Data Analytics, Cyber Security, and Chemical Sciences continues to attract attention.


The Faculty of Humanities offers Master of Arts (M.A.) degrees in a wide variety of subjects including Arabic, African Studies, Communication and Journalism, Public Relations, Politics, Public Policy, Eurasian Studies, Economics (Autonomous), English Studies, French, Gujarati, Hindi, Sanskrit, History, Kannada, Linguistics, Marathi, Psychology, Geography and Geospatial Technology, Persian, Philosophy, Pali and Buddhist Studies, and Sociology. Integrated B.A./M.A. five-year courses are also offered in German Studies and Pali.


Programmes in emerging and culturally significant disciplines such as Yoga Studies, Epics and Puranas, Classical Sanskrit Literature, Urdu, Rural Development, Archaeology, and Avesta-Pahlavi are also available.


The Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies includes specialised postgraduate programmes such as Master of Performing Arts with streams in Hindustani Vocal, Folk Arts, and Theatre.


M.A. courses are also offered in Dr. Ambedkar Studies, Development Studies, International Relations and Strategic Studies, Leadership, Hindu Studies, and Kirtanshastra. The Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) and the Master of Library and Information Science are also part of this faculty’s academic portfolio.


Students inclined towards commerce and management can pursue an M.Com. in Business Management, Banking and Finance, and Advanced Accountancy under the Faculty of Commerce and Management.


MU is also offering an array of PG Diploma courses that reflect current industry trends and skill-based education. These include diplomas in Blockchain Technology, Cyber Security, Law and Forensics, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Thoughts, International Relations and Strategic Studies, Temple Management, and Playback Singing and Stage Performance.


Detailed eligibility criteria, admission procedures, and course-related information have been made available by the University, which has urged prospective candidates to complete the application process by June 3.
