Mumbai had severe rain, thunderstorms, and lightning on Wednesday night, providing much-needed respite from the summer heat. The city is expected to have similar meteorological conditions, including moderate to heavy rainfall, on Thursday as well, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Mumbai is predicted to continue to have overcast skies with the potential for thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rain throughout Thursday, May 22, according to the IMD’s most recent Mumbai weather reports. The predicted range of daytime temperatures is 23 degrees Celsius in the morning to 32 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.

On Wednesday, temperatures at the IMD’s Santacruz observatory in suburban Mumbai reached a high of 32.3 degrees Celsius and a low of 22.5 degrees. According to the most recent Mumbai weather reports, the Colaba observatory recorded a high of 32.2 degrees Celsius and a low of 24.4 degrees Celsius.

The IMD warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall in isolated areas and put Mumbai under a yellow alert till May 24 in its meteorological bulletin released on Wednesday. The Mumbai-based Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) also predicted lightning, a lot of rain, and strong gusts of 50 to 60 kmph during this time.

Similar warnings have been sent out for nearby regions. Palghar and Thane districts are now on a yellow alert, while Thane was placed under an orange warning on May 23. The orange alert denotes a greater degree of worry. On Friday, the RMC has predicted isolated regions to see thunderstorms, lightning, gusty gusts, and severe to very heavy rainfall.

Similar weather conditions are also anticipated in Raigad district between May 21 and May 23, at which time an orange warning has been issued for the region.

In the meanwhile, between 8:30 AM IST on Thursday to 5:30 AM IST on Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded significant rainfall in a number of states.

According to the statistics, areas such as Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Konkan & Goa, Gangetic West Bengal, and portions of Northeast India have seen significant rainfall.

Rainfall was also recorded in Konkan and Goa, with Mumbai (Santacruz) and Ratnagiri (Ratnagiri) both receiving 3 cm and Panjim (North Goa) recording 9 cm.

Vidarbha’s Nagpur (Sonegaon Airport, Nagpur) and Madhya Maharashtra’s Solapur (Solapur) reported 4 and 3 cm, respectively.

Over the next three days, the IMD has predicted that portions of the west coast, particularly Konkan & Goa, Karnataka, and Kerala, would continue to have heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
