As Dinesh Vijan’s Cocktail sequel gears up for production next month, Maddock Films is already moving forward with another high-profile franchise installment Luka Chuppi 2. PeepingMoon.com has exclusively revealed that the 2019 family comedy is being turned into a franchise, with Varun Dhawan and Sharvari Wagh locked in as the new leads.

A New Direction for the Franchise

Unlike the original, which starred Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon and explored the complexities of a live-in relationship under traditional family pressures, Luka Chuppi 2 will introduce a supernatural angle. The sequel will maintain the comedic tone but shift to a fresh storyline. While Laxman Utekar, director of the first film, will not return to helm the sequel, he remains attached as co-producer. Direction duties have been handed over to one of his close associates.

Fresh Pairing with Franchise Familiarity

Both Varun and Sharvari are familiar faces in Vijan’s expanding Horror-Comedy Universe—Varun as Bhediya and Sharvari in Munjya. However, Luka Chuppi 2 will mark their first collaboration, and the makers are confident about their chemistry. The duo is expected to sign the film officially once the final script is locked.

Busy Schedules Ahead

Maddock Films plans to start shooting in early 2026, working around both actors’ packed calendars. Varun just wrapped up David Dhawan’s Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, and is headed to shoot Border 2. Delays in No Entry 2 and Bhediya 2 may open a window for Luka Chuppi 2.

Sharvari, meanwhile, has a strong lineup including YRF’s Alpha with Alia Bhatt, Imtiaz Ali’s period drama with Diljit Dosanjh, and is in talks for Race 4 and Sooraj Barjatya’s next family entertainer.
