returned to the hot seat to present an all-new episode of 's tense quiz show, . However, just minutes into the episode, the TV star was quick to issue a brutal swipe at the first contestant.

After an impressive run on the game show, the player was flying up the money tree. The hopeful quizzer set his first safety net at £125,000, and after a quick advert break, Jeremy asked him: "How are you feeling?" As Nicolas struggled to explain his intense emotion, Jeremy interrupted: "That's a terrible question."

While studio audience roared with laughter, he remarked: "Its what they ask on that auction programme where people have a sold a doll for £3. I'm not interested in how you're feeling, I want you to win money."

However, after confidently breezing through the questions, Nicholas opted to use two of his lifelines for the £1 million question.

Jeremy asked: "Which of these words, each coined by a famous writer, was derived from the title of a fairytale about three princes. Pandamomiaun, Serendipity, Utopia or Yahoo."

After much deliberation, the contestant asked Jeremy his thoughts, who admitted: "I can't think of a fairytale that's about three princes.

He later opted to use his second lifeline and phoned his roommate, who admitted: "No, I don't know. Sorry."

Nicholas revealed he was prepared to take a gamble, to which Jeremy said: "£375,000 is what you're gambling, I know you still go away with a lot."

After locking in "Yahoo, final answer," the studio audience groaned as the computer confirmed the correct answer was "Serendipity".

Jeremy then remarked: "A couple things I'm trying to work out is, is that the biggest loss we've had in Who Wants To Be A Millionaire history, and I don't think I've had a contestant that I've enjoyed more than you."

Viewers were also devastated for the player, as one penned: "Unlucky to the bloke for not getting the million-pound question. But fair play to him for giving it go.

A second echoed: "He seemed a really nice guy. Gutted for him!" As another echoed: "What a shame. Fair play to the lad for giving it a go."

While a fourth said: "Clarkson trying to make £125k sound like a bad day in the office."
