Álex Márquez suffered a crash just before the first corner of the MotoGP British GP race, which could have been much more serious than it was.

At the end of a straight where high speeds are reached, the run-off area had no gravel, and the BK8 Gresini rider slid several metres on the asphalt along with his bike - ending up dangerously close to hitting the barriers.

A situation that led Márquez to deliver strong and firm criticism over the safety shortfall: 'I want to be quite critical regarding safety. When I crashed in that point, there was no gravel in that point, so it was similar to what happened in Portimão to [Carlos] Tatay and I was really close to the wall. My bike went to the wall and I didn’t for 15 meters'.

The Spaniard urges Dorna to act in anticipation of potentially serious crashes: 'We need to avoid these moments and we need to make decisions and check that, because Dorna has their own safety commission or something like that. They need to be a bit more awake on that point and we need to make things before things happen. So, I’m quite angry about that'.

It is worth recalling that Tatay suffered a serious accident at the Portimão round of the 2023 Moto2 European Championship in a similar dynamics, sustaining multiple injuries - including a chronic spinal cord injury resulting in a permanent disability.
