Support for Impeachment of Justice Yashwant Verma

The Allahabad High Court Bar Association has expressed its approval of the central government's alleged move to impeach Justice Yashwant Verma, stating that this action will enhance public trust in the judiciary.

Anil Tiwari, the president of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association, remarked to a news agency, “This impeachment step will bolster the public's confidence in the judiciary. If judges become corrupt, the public's faith in the courts will diminish.”

He emphasized, “It is essential for the court's integrity that action is taken against corrupt individuals. This is not just about Justice Yashwant Verma; it concerns the very existence of the judiciary, public trust, and democracy. If faith in the judiciary erodes, democracy itself is at risk.”

Tiwari urged opposition parties to refrain from politicizing the impeachment issue and to vote in favor of it. Notably, Justice Verma has been in the spotlight following a fire incident at his official residence in New Delhi, where a significant amount of cash was reportedly discovered in the storeroom.

On March 22, the then Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna established a committee of three judges to investigate the matter. Following the Supreme Court's directives, the Delhi High Court withdrew judicial duties from Justice Verma on March 24. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Allahabad High Court.
