News India Live, Digital Desk: Pension updates: The NPS was part of the NPS and is now a reason for retired central government employees who retired on or before 31 March 2025. People with at least 10 years of qualifying service can get additional benefits under the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) besides the benefits received under NPS. Even their legally married spouse will be eligible for this additional assistance.
Employees retiring under NPS who have retired on or before 31 March, 2025 can now choose from two additional benefits. They can either get a lump sum payment equal to the tenth part of their final original salary and can also get DA for every six months of service or if their NPS pension is less than inflation relief under UPS, then they can get monthly top-up.
The last date to claim these benefits is 30 June. Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has officially introduced the Integrated Pension Scheme under NPS Regulations 2025, which will be effective from April 1, 2025.
These new rules allow enrollment to three categories of central government employees under the Integrated Pension Scheme. The first category includes people who are already working under NPS till April 1, 2025. The second category includes new central government employees who are included on or after this date.
The third category consists of central government employees who were under NPS and retired under or before 31 March 2025, voluntarily or under Rule 56 (J). They deserve to choose the Integrated Pension Scheme (UPS). If the retired employee died before choosing UPS, their legally married spouse can still claim benefits.
