Former defender Frank Sinclair has recommended that side pay a penalty to send back to and sign another star in his place. The former England international ended his loan spell on a high, scoring in the final, but has endured difficult moments also at Stamford Bridge, often finding himself out of the team.

Chelsea are obligated to buy Sancho this summer, but can reportedly pay a £5million fee to cancel that clause and force United into taking him back. The 25-year-old fell out of favour with before he was sacked and replaced by , but it is unlikely that he has any future in the north-west.

Sinclair, who played over 150 times for Chelsea and won both the and UEFA Cup Winners' Cup with the club, believes that Sancho's total package is not enough to help Chelsea to their goal of winning the , delivering a brutal message just days after Sancho helped them to European glory in Poland.

"The only person who can answer that is the recruitment team," he told Express Sport with William Hill after being asked for his thoughts on Sancho's future.

"Chelsea do need a right-footed player on the left-hand side so Jadon is definitely one for them to seriously consider. He has the quality, he has plenty of experience, but I am not sure he has the all-around game for Chelsea to get to the next level and win the Premier League, which has to be the aim for the club. So I don't see him being the answer."

Instead, Sinclair thinks that Morgan Rogers should be someone that Chelsea looks further into. side missed out on football at the end of the season, but Rogers shone in a breakthrough season.

Sinclair believes that adding Rogers and another centre-back would provide the platform for Chelsea to challenge for the title.

"I like Morgan Rogers at Aston Villa, Chelsea need back-up on the left-hand side of the pitch in the forward positions," he added. "I also believe Chelsea need a top centre-back and Mario Gila is one player I like and he could really bolster the Chelsea backline.

"There is definite need to add more established quality to this young squad. Chelsea got Champions League football, which was the aim, but now if they want to challenge for the Premier League then they need more strength in depth, more established players that can ensure Chelsea can be more consistent during the season.

"Looking at who I like, I believe we need an established striker, so [Victor] Osimhen has been mentioned, and I like him a lot. I don't see the Premier League phasing him at all and [he] can be a big threat for Chelsea If he joins.

"[Viktor] Gyokeres is another striker who Chelsea should look to enquire about as he has some great numbers to his game and his more of a team player than Osimhen, but either can take Chelsea to the next level."
