Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar offered a brief but telling update on the availability of power-hitter Tim David ahead of the IPL 2025 final against Punjab Kings.
With both franchises aiming for their first-ever IPL title, the question of whether David will return from injury remains a key focus ahead of the decider at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
When asked about Tim David’s status during the pre-final media interaction, Patidar admitted uncertainty.
“I have no idea about Tim David. Docs are there and we will get to know tomorrow.”
Tim David has missed three matches this season, including RCB’s Qualifier 1 win over PBKS, due to a hamstring injury. His absence has forced RCB to adjust their middle-order balance, with the team relying on Liam Livingstone and domestic finishers to close out games.

RCB practised ahead of the final yesterday afternoon, and according to reports, Tim David was unlikely to feature in the upcoming contest. If he is not available, the team will miss a strong finisher. While Liam Livingstone is equally dangerous, his current form is a concern. However, Romario Shepherd was able to dominate in the lower order whenever given a chance. Either way, the team will depend mostly on their top-order, who have been amongst the runs throughout the season.
Despite the cloud over David’s availability, Patidar expressed confidence in his side’s approach to the final.
"We are not looking at the stage that we are going to play the finals. But we will try to play our best cricket", he said.
“Dream season for me”: Patidar stays grounded before first final as RCB captain
In his debut season as captain, Rajat Patidar has guided RCB to their first IPL final since 2016. The right-hander said he was focused on staying present rather than letting the occasion get to him.
“For me, it’s a dream season. This is my first year as a captain. Yes, it’s exciting. No one can deny the expectations. I think, for me, it’s always important to be in the present. I always look at what is in my hand and what we can control. I always believe in controlling the controllables.”
