Historic Arrival of MSC IRINA

The MSC IRINA, recognized as the largest container ship globally, has successfully docked at the Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala. This event marks a pivotal advancement in India's shipping and logistics sector. According to Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), the vessel is set to embark on its inaugural journey from Vizhinjam on June 9.

This docking represents the first time this massive ship has visited a port in South Asia. APSEZ stated, "The MSC IRINA, acknowledged for its TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) capacity, will arrive at Vizhinjam International Seaport on Monday morning and will remain docked until Tuesday."

With dimensions of 399.9 meters in length and 61.3 meters in width, the MSC IRINA is approximately four times longer than a standard FIFA football field. The ship was launched in March 2023 and commenced its first voyage the following month.

Vizhinjam International Seaport, managed by Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd (APSEZ), is India's inaugural Mega Transshipment Container Terminal. This state-of-the-art port is the only transshipment hub in the Indian subcontinent, strategically positioned near major international shipping routes and centrally located along the Indian coastline. It lies just 10 nautical miles (19 km) from the busy east-west shipping lane that connects Europe, the Persian Gulf, Southeast Asia, and the Far East.
