He came within a whisker of doing a face plant as his left foot caught the edge of a step. He stumbled, but steadied himself with a hand on the stairs and quickly recovered as he proceeded to the top.

The incident recalled similar stumbles by , which were remorselessly mocked by the .

" can't even walk up a flight of stairs on Air Force One," he said in 2023.

Later that year, he said Biden uses "the children's stairs" on Air Force One and that he "he can't quite make it up or down" those stairs.

Trump received a bit of his own medicine from social media users, who could not resist having a dig.

One posted: "Lmao. Dude's 80 why tf is he president. He's too damn old."

While another wrote: "This is hilarious. This grandpa should have retired."

A third said: "We should really be questioning if Sleepy Don can be a functioning president."

And a fourth added: "The old man is deteriorating rapidly; there needs to be an internal conversation about placing Trump in a wheelchair."

Meanwhile, California's governor says the state is preparing to sue the US President over his decision to order the National Guard to quell the Los Angeles immigration protests.

In a post to X, Gavin Newsom said: "This is exactly what Donald Trump wanted. He flamed the fires and illegally acted to federalize the National Guard.

"The order he signed doesn't just apply to CA. It will allow him to go into ANY STATE and do the same thing. We're suing him."

He later told MSNBC the lawsuit would challenge Trump's federalising of the California National Guard without the state's consent, a move with little precedent in the country's history
