James Gunn's Superman has achieved an outstanding milestone as the top first-day advance ticket seller of 2025, as reported by Fandango. The film has outperformed all other releases, including Disney's Fantastic Four: First Steps. This accomplishment underscores the significant excitement surrounding the launch of the new superhero film.

Early Access and Nationwide Release

Early access tickets for Superman are available exclusively through Fandango and have been acquired by Amazon Prime members. Screenings are scheduled in select theatres on July 8, 2025, at 7 pm local time, just three days prior to the film's nationwide release on July 11, 2025.
Anticipation Among Moviegoers
The enthusiasm for Superman is clear, as it was recognized as one of the most anticipated summer films in Fandango's 2025 Moviegoing Trends & Insight Study, which included responses from over 5,000 moviegoers. Nicholas Hoult's interpretation of Lex Luthor has been notably highlighted as one of the most eagerly awaited performances of the year, according to a separate survey involving more than 9,000 ticket buyers.

James Gunn’s Superman Cast
The cast includes David Corenswet in the iconic role of Clark Kent / Superman, depicting a younger version of the character as he balances his dual identity as a Kryptonian and human. Opposite him is Rachel Brosnahan as the determined journalist Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult portrays Superman’s arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor. Their relationship is anticipated to provide much of the film’s emotional and narrative richness.

Joining Superman in this reimagined universe are several other DC characters. Nathan Fillion plays Guy Gardner, a bold and brash version of Green Lantern. Isabela Merced appears as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi takes on the role of the brilliant Mister Terrific. Together, they form the “Justice Gang,” a collective of emerging heroes who will help broaden the cinematic universe. Other notable cast members include Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, and Sara Sampaio in an undisclosed role. Alan Tudyk is also providing his voice for a mysterious character named “Four.”

James Gunn, who also serves as the film’s writer, has confirmed that Superman will take cues from All-Star Superman, emphasizing the character’s moral compass and enduring hope in an increasingly complicated world. Instead of being an origin story, the film will delve into Superman’s quest to find equilibrium between his Kryptonian legacy and his human upbringing.

Potential Box Office Success
Industry analysts predict that Superman could achieve a remarkable opening weekend, potentially surpassing £100 million. Previous Superman films have shown strong box office results, with Zack Snyder's Batman v. Superman earning £166 million in its opening weekend back in 2016. Other significant openings include Man of Steel at £116.6 million and Justice League at £93.8 million.

Currently, the highest opening of 2025 belongs to another Warner Bros film, the Minecraft Movie, which grossed £162.7 million. In the realm of superhero films, the top opening so far this year has been Disney's Captain America: Brave New World, which achieved £88.8 million during its debut.
