New Delhi:There is going to be a big change on Indian roads soon. Now the method of payment of toll tax is going to change, so that the passengers will have to pay the distance according to the distance. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has confirmed the implementation of this new GPS-based toll tax system, which aims to eliminate long jams and cash payments on the existing toll plaza.
How will the new system work?
Currently, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) makes dual toll recovery at the toll plaza – for the first time at the time and the second time at the exit gate, for which vehicles have to stand in long queues of fastag scanning. But in the new GPS -based system, the requirement of toll booths will end. As soon as the vehicle enters the highway, the GPS system will be activated and determine the toll according to the distance to your exit point.
Major points and benefits:
Distance based fee: Now users will have to pay only the same distance as they have fixed on the highway, which will bring transparency in the toll collection and reduce inappropriate load on the drivers.
Toll plaza finished: Traditional toll plazas will be removed, so that there will be no long queues of crowds and vehicles on the roads, and the travel time will be significantly reduced.
Technical Integration: GPS-based devices or inbuilt GPS systems will be installed in vehicles. Along with this, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras will also be used which will make the toll debit directly from your bank account.
Targeted User: This system will especially benefit the commutors that live in the outskirts of the city and use toll roads for daily traffic, but they often have to pay tolls for the entire route.
capacity expansion: NHAI believes that the new toll system will increase the capacity of roads, and the country’s logistics and transport costs will be reduced, which will boost economic growth.
The government is working rapidly towards implementing this system, although it may take some time to start it completely. This change will make travel on Indian highways more efficient, smooth and user-friendly.
