After the tragic crash of an Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London on June 12, 2025—which claimed 267 lives—India’s top life insurers, LIC and Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance, have taken a compassionate step by simplifying the insurance claim process for the victims' families.

In a major relief for the bereaved families, LIC and Bajaj Allianz have waived the mandatory requirement for a death certificate to file insurance claims. Instead, any official government or airline record confirming the policyholder's death will now be considered valid proof for the claim process.

LIC stated that they are committed to offering timely support and financial assistance to the families affected by this devastating incident involving the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

To ease the burden on claimants, LIC has announced several relaxations. The following documents will now be accepted in lieu of a death certificate:

• Government-confirmed lists of deceased passengers in the crash




• Compensation documents issued by the central or state government, or the airline




• Any other official evidence related to the incident
