Veteran Pakistani actor Faysal Quraishi, known for his powerful performances and unmatched versatility, is once again at the center of attention—this time not just for his acting, but for a wave of criticism from fellow actor Nadia Afgan.

Quraishi is currently being praised for his challenging role in the drama serial Behroopia, where he plays a character suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder. The drama has earned appreciation for tackling a complex mental health issue, and Faysal’s portrayal of Kabir has been called one of his most layered performances. However, during a recent episode of the celebrity discussion show Kya Drama Hai, Nadia Afgan questioned Quraishi’s dialogue delivery and character portrayal.

She took aim specifically at Kabir’s English pronunciation, saying, “What kind of word is ‘Gottcha’? He keeps saying it again and again. That’s not proper English.” Her comments were seen by many as unnecessarily harsh and dismissive of the effort behind the role.

In response, Faysal Quraishi, alongside Behroopia’s director Shaquielle Khan, addressed the criticism in a composed and professional manner. Quraishi explained that the word “Gottcha” is not an error, but rather a deliberate choice tied to Kabir’s background. He shared that the character is influenced by a foreign friend and mimics certain American mannerisms, including his way of speaking. “In some areas of the USA, especially among certain communities, people casually say ‘Gottcha’ instead of ‘Got you’. It’s part of the character’s personality,” he clarified.

Director Shaquielle Khan echoed Quraishi’s sentiments, adding that every element of Kabir’s speech and behavior was intentional and rooted in the character’s narrative. “If there’s ever a genuine mistake, we’ll be the first to correct it,” he said. “But in this case, Kabir’s speech is designed that way for a reason.”

The public largely sided with Quraishi, with many social media users slamming the criticism as unwarranted. Comments flooded platforms in his support, with users saying that actors should understand the depth of a role before commenting. One user wrote, “These actors sit in living rooms and comment on others’ work without knowing the context.” Another added, “When they don’t get roles themselves, they resort to nitpicking.” Some even accused the critics of jealousy, calling such remarks petty and counterproductive.

Despite the backlash, Quraishi’s calm and thoughtful response has won him even more respect from fans and colleagues alike. His dedication to bringing authenticity to each role remains evident, and Behroopia continues to generate discussion not only for its storyline, but also for the important conversations it’s sparking—on and off-screen.

This incident highlights a broader issue in the entertainment industry, where creative choices are often misinterpreted or criticized without full understanding. Faysal Quraishi’s approach to handling the situation reflects not only his professionalism but also his commitment to evolving as an actor with every role he takes on.
