Vietnam led Southeast Asia in attracting South Korean tourists in the first quarter of this year with 1.3 million arrivals, driven by high levels of safety and relaxed visa policies.
Thailand ranked second with 497,930 arrivals, followed by the Philippines with 395,059.
Low costs, friendly visa policy and rising popularity are among the main reasons for a recent surge in the number of South Koreans traveling Vietnam, according to tourism experts.
In mid-March the government also decided to extend visa exemptions until 2028 for citizens of 12 countries including South Korea.
A wave of Korean celebrities has recently visited popular Vietnamese tourist destinations such as Da Nang, Da Lat, Phu Quoc, and Hoi An, helping boost the country’s appeal.
Beyond affordability, South Koreans are also drawn to Vietnam for its relatively cooler climate compared to their home country.
