New Delhi: Amitabh Kant, India’s G20 Sherpa and former CEO of NITI Aayog, has resigned from his post after completing 45 years of government service. He shared this news through a post on social media on June 16.

Amitabh Kant said he is starting a new journey after a long and dedicated career in public service. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for trusting him with many important roles. He also thanked his colleagues, peers, and friends for their support.

“I am incredibly thankful to the Prime Minister for accepting my resignation and for the chance to work on key development projects,” Kant said in a post on platform X (formerly Twitter).

He mentioned that he now wants to help India grow further by supporting startups, businesses, think tanks, and academic institutions.

In another detailed post on LinkedIn, Amitabh Kant spoke about his experience leading India’s G20 Presidency in 2023. He called it a big milestone in his career. He shared that India’s G20 presidency was people-first, inclusive, and focused on development.

He was proud that during this time, India helped include the African Union in the G20, giving a strong voice to the Global South.

As the CEO of NITI Aayog, Kant led many major programs. These included the Aspirational Districts Programme, the Atal Innovation Mission, and support for Green Hydrogen and Advanced Chemistry Cells. These programs helped improve underdeveloped districts, promoted innovation, and supported clean energy.

He also played a big role in creating policies for Startup India, Make in India, and Ease of Doing Business during his time as Secretary of the Department for Industrial Policy and Promotion.

Kant remembered how his journey began in Kerala. He spoke fondly about working with the local community, developing infrastructure, and promoting tourism through the “God’s Own Country” campaign. Later, he led the “Incredible India” tourism campaign as well.

In his closing note, Kant said he is proud to have served the country and now looks forward to supporting India’s goal of becoming a developed nation, or “Viksit Bharat.”

“I am humbled to have played a small role in this incredible journey,” he wrote.
