Hansi Flick had a successful first season at Barcelona and, while he agonisingly missed out on taking the Spanish team to the Champions League final, he did bring them a double at home, with La Liga and Copa del Rey wins – plus the Spanish Super Cup.

Barcelona are a young and extremely talented team, so they will not need to add much this off-season, but after conceding seven goals in two games against Inter Milan in the Champions League semi-final, Flick will certainly look for some reinforcements when it comes to the team’s defence.

It would be fair to say that questions were asked about Flick when he was appointed head coach, with some predicting that he would not last long in the position.

The German has thrived with the Catalan giants, though, and they were comfortably the best team in Spain during the 2024-25 campaign.

Barcelona also emerged as favourites for the Champions League due to their attacking firepower, but they were eliminated by Inter in the final four when that really should have not been the case.

The Catalan outfit have made the signing of a new attacker their main priority, and it will be fascinating to see what the team achieve next season.

There will also be those not considered to be a part of the journey, with some high-profile exits expected as part of the summer revamp.

Real Madrid will be determined to bounce back next season, and a fierce battle between the two biggest clubs in Spanish football is brewing for the 2025-26 campaign.

Summer 2025 transfer window key dates

The 2025 summer transfer window officially opened on June 1 after FIFA granted special dispensation to allow clubs competing at the Club World Cup to sign players ahead of the new-look tournament. That exceptional registration period then closed on June 10, before the window reopens again on June 16. The transfer window will then close on September 1, and remain closed until January.
