New Support Program for Civil Service Aspirants

Guwahati, June 23: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has introduced a new program aimed at assisting civil service aspirants from Assam in their preparation for the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

This announcement was made during a press conference at Swahid Bhawan in Uzan Bazar, Guwahati, attended by Chief Advisor Samujjal Kumar Bhattarcharya, President Utpal Sarma, and General Secretary Samiran Phukan.

The initiative, named "Pratyasha," is specifically tailored to support candidates who have successfully passed the prelims of the UPSC exam by offering financial and logistical assistance for the Mains.

“We have noticed a decline in Assam’s performance in the UPSC exams over the years. While approximately 44,000 candidates from Bihar participated this year, Assam's numbers are not as promising,” stated AASU President Utpal Sarma.

As part of this initiative, AASU will facilitate UPSC coaching in Delhi, providing deserving aspirants from the state with access to high-quality guidance. The union has committed to fully sponsoring 25 selected candidates, covering all coaching expenses—whether online or offline—at an institute of their choice.

“Candidates who have cleared the prelims and are preparing for the Mains can apply using the application form available at www.aasu.org.in,” Sarma mentioned. The application period is open until June 29, with the list of selected candidates to be revealed in the first week of July.

Those currently enrolled in coaching at private institutes are also eligible to apply for support through this initiative.

In the second phase, AASU intends to send 40 students each year to Delhi for full-time coaching—26 from Assam and 14 from other Northeastern states.

“Our goal is to help more aspirants from Assam and the Northeast succeed in the UPSC. We are dedicated to providing all necessary support,” Sarma added.

The AASU Delhi unit will manage and supervise the program during the training period in the capital.
