Madikeri: Several parts of Kodagu district received heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, prompting authorities to issue an orange alert. Talacauvery and Bhagamandala, the origin points of the Cauvery River, recorded 5 inches of rain in the last 24 hours, while Madikeri taluk received 4 inches.


In Kan Bailu of Baichanahalli village under Suntikoppa hobli, the rear wall of a house belonging to resident P. B. Guruv sustained damage due to overnight rainfall and wind. In another incident, a wall of Ashwath Bhat’s house in Katakeri village collapsed, causing damage.


Traffic was briefly disrupted near Kaggodlu on the outskirts of Madikeri after a tree fell on the main road. Power supply was affected in many rural areas due to strong winds and rain.


Madikeri town experienced continuous rainfall with chilly winds, and the India Meteorological Department has forecast more intense rain in the coming days. The district recorded an average rainfall of 68.54 mm in the past 24 hours, compared to 6.55 mm on the same day last year. Since January, the district has received 1,142.47 mm of rain compared to 529.05 mm during the same period last year.
