Health Desk. Blood pressure (BP) is an important indicator of blood pressure, heart health. It is composed of two numbers: systolic (upper number) and diastolic (lower number). Systolic is the pressure when the heart pumps blood while beating, while diastolic is the pressure when the heart is in rest.
Explain that the normal level of BP changes with age. It has different range in children, youth and the elderly. If BP is not balanced according to age, it can cause serious conditions such as heart diseases, stroke and kidney problems.
General BP in children
Children’s BP is fixed according to their age, height and weight. On average:
Newborn (0-1 month): 60-90 / 30-60 mmhg
Baby (1-12 months): 80-100 / 50-65 mmhg
Children (1-5 years): 90-110 / 55-75 mmhg
Older children (6-13 years): 95-115 / 60-80 mmhg
Teen and youth
14-18 years: 110-120 / 70-80 mmhg
19-25 years: 110-130 / 70-85 mmhg
BP is usually stable in this age group, but stress, irregular routine and food disturbances can cause its imbalance.
Adult (26-60 years)
General BP: 120/80 mmhg
Pre-Hypertension: 120-139 / 80-89 mmhg
High BP (Stage 1): 140-159 / 90-99 mmhg
High BP (Stage 2): 160+ / 100+ mmhg
Regular checkup is necessary at this age as high BP can gradually damage the organs without symptoms.
Elderly (above 60 years)
General Range: 130-140 / 80-85 mmhg
Let me tell you that the arteries become hard with age, which can increase systolic BP. In such a situation, doctors sometimes consider a little high BP acceptable, but it should not be kept above 150/90 continuously, it should be taken care of.
