Chaturmas starts from the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month. It will end on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. The 4 months from Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi to Kartik Shukla Ekadashi are known as Chaturmas. On the first day of Chaturmas, Lord Vishnu, the creator of the universe, goes into Yog Nidra and remains in Yog Nidra for 4 months, due to which auspicious works are prohibited. When does Chaturmas start in 2025?

To know about the beginning of Chaturmas, you have to know on which day is Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi. According to Drik Panchang, this year Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi Tithi is from 6:58 pm on Saturday, July 5 to 9:14 pm on Sunday, July 6. Based on Udayatithi Tithi, Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi is on July 6, so this year Chaturmas will start on Sunday, July 6.

4 auspicious yogas will be formed on the first day of Chaturmas

Devshayani Ekadashi is on the first day of Chaturmas. 4 auspicious yogas will be formed on that day. Sadhy Yoga, Shubh Yoga, Ravi Yoga, and Tripushkar Yoga will be formed on the day of the beginning of Chaturmas. Vishakha and Anuradha Nakshatras will be present on that day. Although Bhadra will be in the morning, its abode will be Patal and Swarga Lok. On Devshayani Ekadashi, people will keep fast and worship Lord Vishnu. From that day onwards, all the gods will sleep for the entire Chaturmas.

From when to when is Chaturmas 2025?

This year Chaturmas is from 6th July to 1st November. Chaturmas will end on 1st November on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi. On that day Lord Vishnu will come out of Yog Nidra and all the Gods will wake up. After that auspicious works will start.

Which auspicious works will not be done in Chaturmas?

1. Marriages are prohibited in Chaturmas. There is no auspicious time for marriage in these four months.

2. There is no housewarming during Chaturmas. If you want to do a housewarming in your house, then you will get auspicious time only after Chaturmas.

3. There is no auspicious time for Namkaran, Mundan, and Upanayan Sanskar i.e. Janeu in Chaturmas. These works are also not done in it.
 

Why auspicious works are not done in Chaturmas?

All the Gods including Lord Vishnu sleep in Chaturmas. No auspicious work is done when the Gods are sleeping. Lord Shiva controls the universe during Chaturmas. Therefore, Shiva Puja is special during Chaturmas.
