It has to be noted that Sitaare Zameen Par marked Aamir's comeback film in Bollywood after the debacle of Laal Singh Chaddha. In a recent interview, Aamir opened up about his first marriage with Reena Dutta and revealed how he planned the secret marriage with her.

Aamir Khan on his first marriage


During an interaction with The Lallantop, Aamir Khan revealed that he fell in love with Reena Dutta during their teenage life. They started dating, but Reena's father found out about their relationship. He locked him up inside. Aamir said, "Reena started crying and sat in the window. I saw it. And I lost my cool and called them. I shouted at her mother, but she scolded me back. Reena's cousins also came and asked me to stay away. Later, I had a word with her father. I scared me and threatened me a lot."

"I called up my friend Satya (Satyameva Jayate's creator). I told him that I am really in love with Reena. I asked Satya to give Reena a letter from me to tell her that I am still in love with her. I waited outside the college. She came, and we went to Satya's house in Prabhadevi. She informed me about the situation. Later, I used to drop a letter daily to our decided spot. After coming back from the college, she would throw her letter by crumpling the paper," Aamir added.

Later, they met and decided to get married. "We met at Satya's house, and I told her, 'Let's get married. I didn't want to take a risk. After I turned 21 on March 14, we registered our marriage on March 18. I wanted to keep our marriage safe. We had decided to keep our marriage certificate for our safety. She took a day to think, and eventually, she agreed," Aamir revealed.

 
The Ishq actor further revealed that after marrying Reena, they used to stay at their houses. "I would meet Reena in the evening outside Bandra Station West. Later, Reena's cousin Anu felt guilty and told my wife that she couldn't support him during her tough times. Reena got emotional and informed her about our marriage. Later, Reena's parents got to know, and they were coming back to Mumbai from Chennai the next day. I told Reena that my parents were also uninformed about it," he added.

Aamir Khan asked Reena to come to his house to be introduced to his parents. "My father thought he would be introducing his girlfriend to him. I started crying. The ladies present at the house also cried. Surprisingly, Abu Jaan (dad)'s reaction was quite unexpected. He came and hugged me tightly. He said, 'Abhi shaadi ho chuki hai, ab kya problem hai?'. I got so emotional. Later, I told him that her parents 'also got to know about it too. When I called at her house to inform her that my parents wanted to meet, her mother asked us not to come," Aamir added.

Eventually, when Reena Dutta's father suffered a minor heart attack, he saw Aamir Khan's good side and accepted him as his son-in-law. He regretted his opinion about Aamir. Well, the whole story was quite interesting and emotional.

In 2002, Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta got divorced. They have two kids - Junaid and Ira. Later, Aamir got married to Kiran Rao in 2005. They have a son, Azaad. They also got divorced in 2021. Currently, Aamir is in a relationship with Gauri Spratt.
