New Delhi: The Toyota Innova Hycross has scored a five-star rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests in both adult and child occupant protection. The Innova Hycross has become the first vehicle from Toyota and the first hybrid vehicle to be tested in the BNCAP thus far. It is also the first time that an MPV has been tested in the BNCAP.

The Innova Hycross took 30.47 points from 32 in adult occupation protection. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test (14.47 out of 16), with the Innova Hycross delivering good protection for most body parts of both front occupants, though the chest protection was marginally enough. However, it managed to get full marks in the side movable deformable barrier test (16 out of 16) and was rated ‘OK’ in the side pole impact test as well.

For the child occupant protection, the Innova Hycross got 45 out of 49 points. It obtained full points in the dynamic test (24 out of 24) and CRS installation as well (12 out of 12), and nine out of 13 in the vehicle assessment test. Child dummies of both 18-month-old and 3-year-old were tested in rearward-facing child seats, secured by ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg.

While the Innova Hycross comes with ISOFIX anchorages on the outboard rear seats, but lacks an integrated child restraint system. 

Bharat NCAP has tested the hybrid VX and ZX variants of the Innova Hycross and have confirmed that the rating applies goes for both the petrol and hybrid variants. As standard, the Innova Hycross gets equipped with six airbags, the 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all passengers, ISOFIX anchords for rear outboard seats, passenger-side airbag cut-off switch and ESC. Toyota’s MPV also complies with AIS-100 pedestrian protection norms, with the top variant ZX (O) trim coming with an ADAS suite.
