Ho Chi Minh City will increase the frequency of services on its metro line until Aug. 15 to meet the rising demand following the merger of other provinces with it.
According to the city Department of Construction’s Public Transport Management Center, there will be 226 trips a day both ways, 26 more than earlier.
There will be a train every 7–12 minutes compared to 10-15 minutes now.
On weekends, the interval will be 8–12 minutes.
Authorities have not announced plans for after Aug. 15.
The line runs from Suoi Tien to Ben Thanh Station, taking approximately 30 minutes to cover the route.
The increased frequency is to accommodate higher commuter demand and to support officials, civil servants and workers commuting daily from Binh Duong to the city.
From the Binh Duong Administrative Center, there are buses 61-05 and 61-77 to the new Eastern Bus Station adjacent to the Suoi Tien metro station.
In addition to increasing the number of metro trips, the city has also started operating shuttle buses for transport officials, civil servants and workers from Binh Duong and Ba Ria – Vung Tau to its administrative center.
Run by Phuong Trang FutaBusline and with three services a day, the buses offer free rides.
From July 1 the new Ho Chi Minh City includes Binh Duong and Ba Ria – Vung Tau provinces.
Nationally, the country’s 63 cities and provinces have been merged to create 34 new entities.
