8th CPC Revised Salary Estimates: When recommendations of a pay commission are implemented, not just the basic salary of central government employees is revised, but also a number of allowances such as house rent allowance (HRA), transport allowance, child education allowance (CEA), and transport allowance (TA). Along with that, the employee contribution to National Pension System (NPS) also increases in proportion to the basic pay.

Employees will have similar hopes when the 8th Pay Commission is formed and its recommendations are approved.

With the 8th Pay Commission (8th CPC) creating buzz among lakhs of central government employees in the country, know how their basic salary, house rent allowance (HRA) and transport allowance (TA) may be revised at a 2.28 fitment factor.

Also know what may be their revised contribution to National Pension System (NPS) and Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS).

HRA in 7th Pay Commission

HRA depends on the rank of an employee and their city of posting. The 7th Pay Commission HRA rates are 8 per cent of basic pay (Z class cities), 16 per cent of basic pay (Y class cities), and 24 per cent of basic pay (X class cities). When HRA reached 50 per cent last year, the rates were revised to 10 per cent, 20 per cent, and 30 per cent, respectively.

Transport allowance (TA)

Transport allowance is given to the employees to commute from the office to the workplace.

It is given on the basis of the employee's rank and the place to travel.

The range varies from Rs 900 to Rs 7,200.

NPS contribution

Central government employees contribute 10 per cent of their basic pay and dearness allowance (DA) to their NPS account.

The government's contribution is 14 per cent. Once the salary is revised in a Pay Commission, the NPS contribution is revised automatically.

CGHS charges

Central government has a chain of CGHS dispensaries and hospitals around the country, where employees can get themselves treated.

They can also get themselves treated in hospitals on the CGHS panel.

The government takes CGHS charges from employees in the range of Rs 250 to Rs 1,000.
