After a volatile session, Indian markets closed marginally higher on Monday. The 30-share BSE Sensex rose 9.61 points, or 0.01 per cent, to 83,442.50. The 50-share NSE Nifty rose 0.30 points, or 0 per cent, to 25,461.30. The rupee depreciated 48 paise against the US dollar on Monday to close at 85.88 (provisionally).

In the first session of the week, the domestic stock market was seen trading in a range. Sensex and Nifty closed flat on Monday. Midcap and smallcap indices closed with a decline. Talking about the sectoral front, defence, IT and metal stocks were under pressure. FMCG stocks also saw good buying. Oil and gas and realty indices closed with a decline. What was the market situation? 

After the day’s trading on Monday, the Sensex settled at 25,461.30. At the same time, the Sensex also closed at 83,442.50. The Nifty Midcap index fell 162 points to close at 59,516. At the same time, the Nifty Bank index fell 83 points to close at 56,949.

Which stocks are bullish? 

After the announcement of first quarter business updates, FMCG companies witnessed a rise today and the index closed in the green. The top-4 names in the list of 6 fastest-growing stocks of Nifty include HUL, Nestle India, Tata Consumer and ITC. Due to the decline in crude oil prices in the international market, stocks like ONGC and OIL India were under pressure. Oil marketing companies saw a rise of 1-2%.

Important updates 

Info Edge closed down 4% after reporting the lowest billing growth in the last 4 quarters. Jubilant Food was under pressure despite strong updates in the first quarter and Dabur India closed with gains after weak updates. Godrej Consumer was the fastest growing stock in the midcap. This stock closed with a 6% gain after the quarterly update.

Defence stocks were under pressure today. BEL was the weakest stock in the Nifty index. ICICI Lombard was under pressure after the premium figures were released and New India Assurance closed lower after recovering from the day’s low. PB Fintech saw a big improvement in the last hour of the session and this stock closed at the day’s high.

DreamFolks was also under pressure today and this stock closed down 6% today. JP Power saw heavy buying today and this stock closed with a huge gain of 19%. There was an initial rise in BSE, but it did not last.
