Margaret Johnson made history as the oldest female contestant to grace ITV's The Chase last year, leaving viewers in awe of her zest for life. At the age of 92, Margaret was also hailed as "an inspiration" by host Bradley Walsh, as she geared up to face Shaun Wallace alongside her fellow contestants; Aaban, Willis, and George.

Margaret was inspired to apply for the show after her son Matthew's successful stint, where he bagged an impressive £25,000.

Speaking to Bradley ahead of her Cash Builder round, the contestant shared hopes of following in her son's footsteps, and said she'd like to spend any winnings on getting a flight with her other son Adrian, an airline captain.

However, despite her best efforts, Margaret's quest ended without a cash prize.

Nonetheless, the contestant had no qualms about her departure, fondly recalling the event as "a lovely day out".

In an interview with Yours Magazine, Margaret shared more about her stint on the popular quiz show.

Recounting the build-up to the day, the contestant recalled being advised to bring in a selection of five outfits for filming, to ensure that at least one would be fit for camera.

"First, I was introduced to the show contestants, then we were told how the show worked - although I already knew that as I'd watched it for so long," she revealed.

"After that, someone went through the five potential outfits, I'd been asked to bring along, to pick out something that would go well with what everyone else was wearing. 'They're very particular aren't they?' I whispered to Clare [her chaperone]."

Margaret went on to say that she was also instructed to address Bradley as 'Brad', his preferred version of the name.

Additionally, the contestant remembered a floor manager commenting on Bradley's unusually lengthy interaction with her.

She shared with the publication: "'Brad's never spoken to a contestant for as long as that,' a floor manager said. 'You're television gold!', another crew member added."

Margaret continued: "Before we left, I was told I wouldn't be on air for a few months. 'Don't wait too long - I'm 92!' - I joked."

The hopeful's episode aired two months later in January this year, and at the time, many viewers praised her on social media.

One posted on the platform X: "92 years young and smashing it on The Chase! Amazing."

"If only we could all be like Margaret when we hit 92! #TheChase," a second added.

A third user commented: "What a lovely 92-year-old lady. An absolute star! #TheChase."

The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm on ITV and ITVX. Weekend times vary.
