Hoang Thi Nhung, who was waiting at the red light on a motorbike, said she was hit from behind, thrown to the ground, and suffered scrapes on her torso and limbs.
“I couldn’t get up until someone came to help me,” Nhung said.
Authorities confirmed that more than 10 people were injured and taken to Bach Mai Hospital, about one kilometer from the scene.
One of them, a man in his 40s, died soon after arrival due to multiple injuries.
At the site of the crash, the car’s airbags had deployed, and its front end was heavily damaged. Over a dozen motorbikes were left overturned, stacked, and scattered across roughly 100 meters of Tran Dai Nghia Street, with some crushed against trees.
The female driver appeared visibly shaken as she exited the vehicle and was consoled by bystanders.
Her husband later told authorities that she had been suffering from insomnia for several days before the incident.
