New Delhi: Seven-time champion Novak Djokovic defeated Flavio Cobolli in the quarters to reach the men’s singles semi-finals at Wimbledon 2025. Gunning for a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title at the All England Club this year, the Serbian ace came from behind to beat the entertaining Italian, who produced a slight scare for the legendary Serbian on Wednesday.
Djokovic beat Cobolli 7-6 (8-6) 2-6 5-7 4-6 in four sets at the Centre Court to set up a mouth-watering semi-final clash against world no.1 Janik Sinner, who defeated American Ben Shelton earlier in the day to reach the semi-finals. Djokovic has now reached his 14th semi-final at Wimbledon as he continues to search for his record 25th Grand Slam crown.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion fought from a set down in the quarters to get the better of Cobolli, who produced a spirited display against the Serbian. The Italian headed into the quarter-final well-prepared, having watched a wealth of Djokovic’s footage to analyse his strengths and weaknesses.
It did seem to have paid off as Cobolli got off to a perfect start in what was arguably the biggest match of his career so far. The Italian took the first set off Djokovic after fighting tooth and nail. However, the Serbian’s finesse, experience and ability to remain composed under pressure paid off as he managed to see off the 23-year-old despite not being at his best.
Another one to add to the list 👊

Djokovic accumulated 13 aces in the match and held 19 pf his 21 serves, while using his power and drop shots to perfection against the Italian. He bounced back to take the second set 6-2, before winning the next one 7-5 after a hard-fought battle. In the final set, Djokovic recovered from an awkward fall to beat Cobolli in the four-setter and enter the semi-finals.
52nd Grand Slam semi-final for DjokovicThe semi-final at Wimbledon 2025 will be Djokovic’s 52nd in Grand Slams in his career so far, which is the joint-most by any player (male or female) in the Open Era. He has equalled the record held by Chris Evert, who reached 52 Grand Slam semi-finals in his career.
Interestingly, Cobolli was only 3 years old when Djokovic made his debut at Wimbledon’s main draw in 2005. The 38-year-old has since won the Wimbledon title seven times in his career, the second-most by any player, behind only the legendary Roger Federer, who has won the tournament a record eight times.
