Notes and coins are very important in our daily life, but very few people know where they are made. Yes, notes and coins are printed in some important parts of the country, so let us know about it in detail.

We all need money to fulfill every small and big need of life. Some work is done with notes and some with coins. But have you ever wondered where the notes and coins in your pocket come from? Let us know where the notes are printed and coins are minted in India.

Talking about bank notes (currency notes) in India, they are printed in four currency presses. Out of these, two currency presses are owned by the Government of India. They are run by a government company named 'Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL)'. These presses are located in Nasik (Western India) and Dewas (Central India).

Let us tell you that the remaining two currency presses are owned by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). These are completely run by RBI's company 'Reserve Bank of India Note Printing Private Limited (BRBNMPL)'. Both these presses of BRBNMPPL are in Mysore (South India) and Salmoni (Eastern India).

Now talking about coins, they are minted in four mints, which are also owned by SPMCIL. These mints are located in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Noida. According to Section 38 of the Reserve Bank of India Act (RBI Act), coins are issued for use by the general public only through the Reserve Bank (RBI). This simply means that coins do not come to the market directly from the mints (where coins are made), but reach the people only through RBI.

The government cannot print notes as per its wish, because the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) prints notes in our country, but the government decides which notes will be printed. If notes of higher value are to be printed, it is necessary to take the approval of the government. (Input: rbi.org.in)
