Union Public Services Commission i.e. UPSC, has released the schedule of Civil Services Main Examination 2025. Candidates can visit the official website of UPSC upsc.gov.in, to see the complete schedule. Written examinations will be conducted between 22nd and 31st August. Candidates who have successfully passed the UPSC preliminary examination and filled DAF-1 can appear in the main examination.

To become an IAS, IPS, IRS or IFS officer, it is necessary to pass all three stages of the UPSC examination i.e. preliminary examination, main examination, and interview. This year, about 14 thousand candidates will appear in the main examination for recruitment to 979 posts. Then the candidates who pass this main examination will be interviewed, and they will be selected on that basis.

Mains Exam Pattern

The UPSC Mains exam will have 9 descriptive papers. Out of these, two papers will be for English and the regional language. Passing both these papers is mandatory. The total marks of both papers will be 300 300. Papers 1, 2, 3, and 4 will be for GS, and each paper will be of 250 marks. There will be one essay paper and two papers for the optional subject chosen by the candidate, and each paper will be of 250 marks. Candidates will have to choose an optional subject from the list of prescribed subjects.

When were the prelims held?

The UPSC prelims exam was conducted on 25 May 2025. It consisted of two objective-type papers and each paper was of 2 hours, for which there were a total of 200-200 marks. The result of this exam was released in June. After this, the candidates who passed were given time to fill the DAF, which includes personal details, educational details, work experience, preference for services and other related information.
