EWS (Economically Weaker Section) certificate has become an essential document to get 10% reservation in government jobs, admission in higher education institutions and 10% reservation in many schemes of the Central and State Government. This certificate is issued only to the general class persons who do not come socially backward (SC, ST, OBC) and are considered financially weak.

Who can people get EWS certificate?
The EWS certificate is given only to those individuals who fulfill the following conditions: The family annual income of the applicant should be less than ₹ 8 lakhs (from all sources), SC, ST or OBC category should not be included in the category, property parameters should not have more than 5 acres of agricultural land in rural areas. No flat of over 1000 square feet in urban area. There is no plot of over 100 square yards in the municipality area. No more than 200 square yards plot in other areas
Process of making EWS certificate in Uttar Pradesh
1. Visit Tehsil Office or CSC Center: First of all reach your nearest Tehsil Office or Public Service Center (CSC). Here you will be given all the information to the application.
2. Get the application form: There is a prescribed application form for EWS certificate, which can be taken from CSC or Tehsil Office. In some places it is also available online.
3. Fill the application form: The information below in the form has to be filled carefully: the name and address of the applicant, father or husband’s name, annual family income details, property details, confirmation of caste category (general)
4. Attach the required documents: Aadhaar card, residence certificate (ration card, electricity bill, voter ID etc.), income certificate (issued by Revenue Officer), property documents, self-declaration letter (which confirm the truth of information), passport size photo, bank statement (if necessary), PAN card (if available)
5. submit the application:Submit all documents and filled form to the concerned officer. Digital receipt is also received on applying at CSC Center.
6. Verification Process:The documents given by you will be examined by the Tehsildar or Revenue Department. If all the information is found to be correct, the certificate will be approved.
7. Certificate will be issued: Your EWS certificate will be issued after the verification is completed. Generally, this process is completed within 7 to 30 working days.
Validity of certificate
The EWS certificate issued in Uttar Pradesh is usually valid for one year. After this, if there is no major change in your economic situation, you can get it renewed.
