Bihar flood: The devastating floods of the Ganges river in Bihar have caused huge destruction in the Diara areas of Shahpur and Barhra blocks of Bhojpur district. Damodarpur embankment and Jawania village of Shahpur have been completely submerged. Dozens of houses here have merged into the Ganges and hundreds of families are forced to live under the tent and tarpaulin on the embankment. Last year, 59 houses in Jawania village were swept away in erosion. This year, the situation is even more serious-about 150 houses, temples, trees and water tanks of four and five have merged into the Ganges. Now only one or two houses are left in these wards. The administration has set up camps for the affected by putting tents, pandals and tarpaulin on a five -kilometer long embankment.

Flood -affected boat service free

About one lakh people of 16 villages of Khwaspur Panchayat of Barhra live in flood conditions every year for six months. For these people, the only means of reaching the district headquarters Ara or Block Headquarters Barhra is the boat. The total population of this panchayat across the Ganges is about 1.5 lakh, which suffers similar pain every year. The administration has made arrangements for free boat service for the movement of flood affected people. The SDRF team is engaged in relief and rescue operations. Apart from this, medical teams have also been deployed in the camps, so that people can get necessary first aid. Animal fodder and drinking water are also being arranged, but the ground reality is that resources are limited and requirements are very high.

289 schools in flood affected areas closed

289 schools in flood affected areas of the district have been closed by August 13, which is disrupting thousands of children. Essential teaching equipment of plus two level schools has been delivered to other safe places. Most of the 2500 population of Jawania village belong to Bind, Mallah and Yadav caste. Some Brahmin families have also been displaced due to floods. Many people are somehow living in Bihiya Chaurasta, Buxar or Brahmapur by taking shelter from their relatives.
