OpenAI has launched a new subscription plan in India called ChatGPT Go, priced at INR 399 per month. The plan is being rolled out as an India-only option and can be purchased via UPI.

The new price is much lower than its existing subscription options, offering selective features of ChatGPT with extended access.

“We just launched ChatGPT Go in India, a new subscription tier that gives users in India more access to our most popular features: 10X higher message limits, 10x more image generations, 10x more file uploads, and 2X longer memory compared with our free tier,” Nick Turley, vice president and head of ChatGPT said in an X post.

He further added, “Making ChatGPT more affordable has been a key ask from users! We’re rolling out Go in India first and will learn from feedback before expanding to other countries.”

Go can be accessed at the charge of INR 399 per month, about 80% less than the Plus subscription, which is priced at INR 1,999 per month, while the AI giant’s highest subscription Pro is charged at INR 19,900 per month.

The new subscription, on the website said, “Only available in certain regions.”

Based on the company’s pricing, Go subscribers will have extended access to its flagship model GPT-5.

Turley also mentioned that “All users in India will now see prices for subscriptions in Indian Rupees, and can now pay through UPI.”

The shift in currency pricing removes the barrier of dollar-based payments and foreign transaction fees.

The new launch of the economical subscription reflects chief executive Sam Altman’s comments on OpenAI working on launching more products for India with a focus on affordability as a USP.

Altman shared his plans on his vision for the Indian market while the AI company rolled out GPT-5, the latest version of its large language model GPT for users of ChatGPT, earlier this month.
