With common flu like symptoms, the H3N2 virus is spreading rapidly across Delhi and surrounding NCR cities as well. According to a recent health report by
Local Circles survey, it shows a staggering increase from 50-70 percent households reporting at least one member falling ill with flu-like symptoms over the past few months in Delhi-NCR. While the flu may not be new, the current stage is definitely serious and needs urgent attention.
Understanding the virus

The H3N2 strain of the influenza is type A virus that rise in cases of several factors including post-monsoon waterlogging, fluctuating temperatures, increased outdoor strolls etc. Several hospitals and doctors are observing high number of patients with this virus strain, particularly people with respiratory problems, children and the elderly.
Reports say the main culprit is the influenza for this significant jump, which is leading to prolonged fevers, hospitalization and even respiratory issues among individuals. A survey of 11,000 respondents across Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad, reported that one or more family member were currently sick or has been down with fever, cough and fatigue.
The survey found out that

  • 37% had at least four or more people sick

  • Another 32% had at least one to three members showing symptoms

  • Only 25% of the families said no one was unwell.

This marks a steep rise since March 2025, when only 54 per cent of households reported flu-like cases.
Why is this flu concerning

While most of these virus cases resolve on its own with proper rest and enough hydration, doctors still warn that this virus might hit children and the elderly more and some hospitals have even reported the cases of pneumonia, bronchitis and respiratory complications.
