A New Chapter in Storytelling

Zee TV continues its legacy of presenting emotionally charged and socially relevant narratives with its latest series, Ganga Maiya Ki Betiyaan.

This show is set in Varanasi, one of the world's oldest and most sacred cities, and it delves into the inspiring journeys of women who overcome abandonment, societal rejection, and stigma.

Central to the narrative is Ganga Mai, a woman abandoned by her husband and shunned by society for having three daughters instead of a son. Rather than succumbing to her plight, she discovers strength and dignity in raising her daughters to confront injustice and reclaim their honor.

The title, Ganga Maiya Ki Betiyaan, symbolizes the strength of femininity passed from mother to daughters. Amandeep Sandhu, who portrays the middle daughter Saneha, states, “The show not only narrates a story but also reflects societal issues, prompting tough discussions about gender roles.”

As a middle child herself, Amandeep relates closely to Saneha, saying, “She embodies someone who takes charge during conflicts!”

The series is filmed in Punjab and Varanasi. Veteran actress Shubhangi Latkar, who plays a significant role, expressed her thoughts on shooting in Varanasi, stating, “Varanasi and the Ganga are integral to the show, as vital as any character.” She emphasized that Ganga Maiya Ki Betiyaan highlights real-life challenges and amplifies the voices of countless women who, despite being marginalized, continue to fight. The daughters of Ganga rise above rejection, asserting their place in a world that seeks to silence them. Their journey conveys a universal message: No woman is weak — every Indian woman embodies the strength of Ganga. “While it’s a harsh reality that women still face discrimination for not bearing sons, I take pride in saying that the strength of an Indian woman is unmatched.”

Zee shows reach audiences worldwide, and through this series, Shubhangi aims to contribute to societal change. “As an actor, I believe entertainment can raise awareness, and that’s what we’re achieving with this show.” Amandeep adds, “Boys have their strengths, just as girls do. I don’t seek to be treated like a boy; I simply want girls to receive the respect and recognition they deserve.”

Ganga Maiya Ki Betiyan is set to premiere on September 22.
