In a recent social media update, the Minister highlighted that domestic tourist numbers in 2023 were recorded at 0.366 million, while foreign visitors stood at 0.067 million, placing Tripura second in the Northeast for foreign tourist arrivals, just behind Sikkim.
Chowdhury noted that in 2024, domestic arrivals climbed to 0.601 million, and foreign arrivals increased to 0.091 million, maintaining the state's second position after Sikkim for foreign tourism.
He extended his congratulations to Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha, the local populace, and the Tourism Department team for achieving this "remarkable success."
Furthermore, Chowdhury mentioned that Union Ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia (DoNER) and Nirmala Sitharaman (Finance) have pledged support for enhancing tourism infrastructure in Tripura.
Last week, the Minister met with both Union Ministers to discuss the ongoing initiatives and future plans of the Tripura Tourism Department.
After his meeting with the DoNER Minister in Delhi, Chowdhury expressed that he requested funding to improve tourism infrastructure in the Northeastern state.
"The DoNER Minister assured all possible assistance to bolster the tourism sector in Tripura," Chowdhury shared on Facebook.
He elaborated on the current activities and future plans of the Tourism Department during his discussions with the Union Minister.
"I also requested his support for advancing new tourism projects with the financial backing of the DoNER Ministry. Scindia confirmed his cooperation for the development of tourism in Tripura," he stated.
In another update, Chowdhury informed Union Finance Minister Sitharaman about the ongoing initiatives and upcoming plans of the Tourism Department.
"I also sought her assistance to progress some new projects for the department," he added.
