The Central Government has initiated an online refund process for investors affected by the Sahara Group cooperative societies case, following directions from the Supreme Court of India. To streamline the refund mechanism and make it accessible to all, the Ministry of Cooperation has launched a fully digital refund claim portal on the official website of the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies (CRCS)https://mocrefund.crcs.gov.in/depositor/.

This new system aims to bring transparency and efficiency to the refund process, ensuring that investors can reclaim their deposits without any intermediaries or long procedural delays.

How the CRCS Refund Portal Works

The government’s online initiative allows investors of the four Sahara Group cooperative societies to file refund claims directly through the web portal. The process is designed to be simple and user-friendly, requiring only a few basic steps.

Step 1: Registration

  • Visit https://mocrefund.crcs.gov.in/depositor/.

  • Enter your Aadhaar number, registered mobile number, and the captcha code displayed.

  • Verify the OTP sent to your mobile number to complete the registration.

  • If your Aadhaar is not linked to your mobile number, it must be linked first to proceed.

Step 2: Logging In

  • Once registered, select the Depositor Login option.

  • Enter the last four digits of your Aadhaar, mobile number, and captcha code.

  • Verify the OTP to access your account.

Step 3: Submitting the Refund Claim

  • After logging in, fill out the refund claim form by selecting the respective cooperative society’s name.

  • Provide details like deposit amount, passbook number, and certificate number.

  • If you have invested in more than one of the Sahara societies, you can submit claims for all of them using a single form.

This end-to-end online process eliminates the need for investors to visit agents or offices, saving time and effort while maintaining complete transparency.

Who Can Apply for Refunds

The refund process applies to investors who had deposited money in any of the following four Sahara Group cooperative societies:

  • Sahara Credit Cooperative Society Ltd.

  • Saharayn Universal Multipurpose Society Ltd.

  • Hamara India Credit Cooperative Society Ltd.

  • Stars Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd.

The government has assured that eligible claimants will receive their refunds directly into their bank accounts after verification of documents and data.

Thousands of Investors Already Benefited

According to government data, thousands of investors have already received their refunds through this digital mechanism. The process is being expanded and accelerated to cover more applicants in the coming months.

Officials from the Ministry of Cooperation stated that the CRCS refund portal is a landmark step toward ensuring justice and financial relief for small depositors whose funds were stuck for years. By using modern digital tools, the government aims to make the refund journey smoother, faster, and corruption-free.

Government’s Focus on Transparency and Trust

This initiative not only fulfills the Supreme Court’s directive but also strengthens public confidence in India’s cooperative sector. The online system ensures that:

  • Refunds are processed directly by the government, with no third-party involvement.

  • Investors can track their claims and receive real-time updates.

  • The process remains paperless and transparent, minimizing the risk of fraud or manipulation.

Authorities have also urged depositors to use only the official portal and avoid relying on unauthorized agents or websites, as all legitimate refunds will be handled exclusively through mocrefund.crcs.gov.in.

Restoring Investor Confidence

The government’s digital refund system represents a major step toward restoring trust among millions of small investors who had lost hope of recovering their money. The move underscores the Centre’s commitment to protecting investor interests and promoting accountability within the cooperative finance ecosystem.

As the refund process gains momentum, affected investors are encouraged to register and submit their claims promptly to ensure timely settlement. The government has reaffirmed that every genuine depositor will get their rightful dues in a fair and transparent manner.
