The fifth edition of Literary Escapes , a cultural event in collaboration with Simon & Schuster India was held at Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel, Delhi Airport.
This edition saw an interesting conversation around literature and travel between Mr. Chema Basterrechea, Global President & COO of Radisson Hotel Group , and Dr. Rakshanda Jalil , author, historian, and cultural critic. Rakshanda is an acclaimed author and is known for her works - Liking Progress, Loving Change, A Rebel and Her Cause, Invisible City. Dr. Jalil read from her latest book, Love in the Time of Hate in an engaging interaction which prompted discussions about themes of love, empathy, and storytelling.


Literature lovers from across the city attended the event and the list included writers and readers. The conversations centred around influential books and memorable passages, reflecting on how stories encourage introspection and offer moments of personal connection.
Literary Escapes is a collaboration between RHG and Simon & Schuster India that aims to bring literature and travel together. Selected Radisson hotels across India host book-related activities such as lounges, pop-up libraries, and panels, creating creative spaces that blend cultural themes with hospitality.
Mr. Chema Basterrechea noted the increasing link between books and travel , describing Literary Escapes as offering guests an opportunity for reflection and inspiration beyond their stay. He highlighted how biblio-tourism is becoming a way for travelers to engage with stories and cultures worldwide, with India’s rich literary heritage providing a fitting context.
Sanjiv Gupta, Managing Director of Simon & Schuster India, expressed support for the initiative, emphasizing books as a means of empathy and connection, and the value of presenting Simon & Schuster’s authors in meaningful settings.
Literary Escapes has featured authors such as Vikas Swarup, Advaita Kala, Benyamin, and Kasturi Mahanta, and has been hosted in places like Dharamshala and Delhi. This fifth edition represents an ongoing effort by RHG to support cultural dialogue and creativity through its venues.
